watts used from a 600w psu

Post by Lanx » Tue Aug 07, 2007 12:21 am

i bought a watt monitoring device(18bucks) so i plugged in to my gf's pc(easier to reach the power plug)
her computer is similar to mine

600w psu(some ultra x cheap thing)
1.9amd x2 oc'd to 2.9
2gb
1 320g drive
1 dvdr
8800gts

so it reads in watts
off-5
standby-8
idle-132
load-197

i mean i have all the computers(we have 4 in the room) set to standby s3 after 1hr of non use but what does the 132 idle watt usage translate into?

i'm pretty bad w/ math and numbers but know about money heh. for reference

19in crt 63w
22in lcd 23w
dyson vacuum 120w
lamp 88w(shows 100w on the bulb)
ps2 30w
projector 215w
microwave-105w
routers/cordlessphone 5w or less
toaster-867w!(yes i did the measurement 3x)

i don't know about electronics or whatever, but whats it gonna run me leaving my computers on in idle mode running at 132w.

well i did some research online i guess your power company charges by the khw(or kilowatt per hour)

and i think my bill said it was anywhere from 8c to 9c per khw, i live in virginia if thats any indication.

so if we're doing this by hours, and there are 720hrs in a month(roughly, 24*30)

and my idle computer does 132w is this correct?

720*.132*.08=$7.60
a month?

I think you've missed a zero at the end in both cases. Or your power meter was priced $1.8, not $18. :)

Yeah, now that I think about it... it says 1200W on the Siemens King here and 650-800W is the range my microwave cooks at. :D
