[How] hot is too hot?! :)

So I got one of Seasonic's older 300watt units-- Super Tornado 300 or something-- and I'm not really using it properly.... open frame. Fully loaded my game system will draw ~233watts AC which is ~55watts of heat being generated by the PSU... and just for kicks it idles with 100watts AC which is ~21 watts of heat from the PSU.

Anyways I have cold air being drawn in by a 800rpm slipstream and onto the open psu also I have a 8800GTS that sucks air off the PSU as well... wierd setup... maybe I'll get pics one day if everything goes well.

So with fan at 800rpm is been good for last few days at full load doing stress tests... I only have a temp probe I can stick on stuff try to get some idea of temps... nothing seems all that hot. I'll have a temp gun at work tomorrow to try to be a little more accurate.

Question is how should I go about declaring 'this cooling is adequate' or 'this is too hot'. I was going to maybe just watch the heatsink temps and try to keep them under 60C maybe? Any better ideas?

BTW this is the PSU:

<60C would be ideal, though depending on your power draw I don't know how achievable that is. I guess if your system doesn't crash repeatedly and there's no pop/fizz from the PSU frying, you're fine...

Turns out this is working better than expected... I can't find anything over 40C on the PSU... one heatsink is 35C the other is 38C with system fully loaded.

Hmm... not sure which to cut down first, stock 8800GTS fan or the 800rpm slipstreams... HMM

I had the same thoughts when I replaced my FSP fan with a Nexus tuned at 800rpm... But no issues at all, still good after 5 months. And I got a 9600GT card, so it's not super low in Watt-need. The exhaust air was around 35 C.

Anyway, I've replaced it again, but this time for a Noctua. Been running great for 4 days now... *pepper pepper* :-)
