Sealing smaller intakes on Seasonic SS-300FS

Post by quietdragon » Tue Feb 03, 2004 3:07 pm

The SS-300FS has two sets of intakes. The larger set is on the far side of the case opposite the fan, and the smaller set is adjacent to the fan and typically draws air from near the motherboard.

In a vertical tower case configuration, the smaller intakes draw hot air from the motherboard (and hot cpu).

If the purpose of the PSU fan is to cool the PSU, then drawing 40C air from the CPU + motherboard doesn't appear to be a winning strategy.

I would think a case fan close to the cpu to expel the motherboard and cpu heat would provide a better solution, and would potentially allow the PSU to do away with the smaller intakes.

Has anyone tried sealing the smaller intakes, and relying solely on the larger far side intakes drawing relatively cooler air from the front of the case?

How did you seal the intakes? Tape?

Does flipping the PSU upside-down achieve the same results?
