Braiding PSU cables - Selecting braid size

Post by Scooby » Wed Mar 17, 2004 9:43 am

I'm going to braid the cables on my new psu but I'm usnure what size braid is best.

Sold in reels of 5m

diameter
nom. min. max. colour stock no. price per reel
5 3 10 Black 389-886 £3.10
10 6 18 Black 389-892 £4.46
15 10 25 Black 389-909 £5.72
20 12 30 Black 389-915 £6.77
30 25 45 Black 298-2819 £9.08
40 35 60 Black 298-2831 £11.59
50 45 73 Black 298-2869 £14.54

what would be the ideal size for the 4 pin molex connector cables and the 20 pin atx cable. My definition of ideal is being not overly tight so it looks like a fine mesh with the cables being obviously visible but at the same time not being baggy.

I would suggest looking for a pre-cut kit, such as those offered by Techflex. These kits come with appropriate lengths of different diameter size to completely sleeve a standard system.

For specific sizes 'google' for pre-cut kits and make note of the content of a standard package.

I used a pre cut kiy for my last psu..this is a lot cheaper as I'll have plenty left over to do future psu's.

Bought the 3mm-10mm for fan wires, 6mm-18mm for the molex cables and 10mm-25mm for the 20pin atx. Already got heatshrink and the extraction tool. But I'll have to order a molex minifit extractor from the US (performance-pcs) as nowhere in the UK sells em.
