Nexus NX-3500SE/NX-4090?

Post by Jordan » Sat Jul 17, 2004 6:13 pm

From KoolnQuiet website:

"We are now stocking the Nexus Real Silent 120 mm Fan. 36.9 cfm at 22.8 dBA. We are also stocking the Nexus NX3500SE 350W PSU. This is a badged Fortron product but with an even better fan, according to reviewers."

It's the only place in the UK I can find that sell the 3500 and have it in stock. But how does the SE compare yto the original? Is it just a rebadged Fortron?

Thanks

EDIT: I WANT this PSU and I intend to buy it if I can find it so if anyone knows where I can get it in the Uk that would be great (Kustom PC are out of stock).

Also has anyone used the NX4090? How does it compare?

Thanks I didn't think to check for resellers on the official site. I had found 2 already, Kustom PC and Novatec. Kustom PC were out of stock and the other, Red Line are really expensive. So Novatech it is.

I should have a NX-4090 soon, I just hope it's as quiet as the official site says compared to the NX-3500.

I'm actually stuck between this and an Enermax Noisetaker 475 (check here: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewto ... highlight= ). The Nexus is cheaper so it looks to be in front ATM.

what did you go for in the end? my psu has just failed on me and im exactly in the same position as you, either the nexus from kustompcs or the enermax from overclockers :) the review for the enermax is good according to spcr though, although i love the nexus' 120mm fan lol.

I just bought Nexus NX-4090 and I'm very pleased with it. It's a lot quieter than my old Zalman 400W. Now only thing I hear to my bed (about 3 meters to computer) is Samsung 160GB SATA HD. Maybe I have to buy one of these for that.

Beware if you order a 4090 from Novatech in the UK - they shipped me a Nexus 4000 last week instead. RMA in progress (and very efficient pickup it was too), waiting to hear the outcome. Suggest anyone ordering double checks what they will get.

I got a 4090 and am very pleased with it, its nice and quiet :). (I've never heard it ramp up the fan speed either). The only thing I on't like with it is that it can only give full power when the ATX 12V connector is used, which is a bit annoying..

That's funny coz I got the exact same thing. I got a NX4000 sent out and when I phoned them up about it they said it was their supliers fault for not giving them 4090s. Doesn't mean they have to send them out without advising us!

I was very annoyed but expecting it also after your post. They picked it up and gave me a refund saying they can't be sure when the new ones will be in. I'm waiting on Kustom PC to get them back in stock and I'm ordering straight away.

i kept the Nexus 120mm fans though and I'm completely happy with them. Both are spinning away at 700RPM.

NX4090 back in stock at Kustom! Ordered it now I just have to wait...

*note to self - don't let expectations get too high. You only ever end up disappointed!*

Got my refund from Novatech but buying the fans from them and paying the extra shipping cost me about £10 and extra hasle. Novatech are on my bad list now.

My Nx4090 from kustom arrived today. I also got 3 of their Nexus Orange 120mm fans. I'm pretty pleased by their low noise level, though I won't work them into my system for a little while yet.

Has anyone else noticed that the Nexus ATX connector seems to be missing one wire? I hope it's just another ground wire and it's not essential, but I'd be relieved if someone else spotted that too please ;)

*Checks inside case*

Nope. The one in view has 4 wires attached to the molex plug, nothing missing. I found them to be a little too loud til I tamed them to at least/most 800RPM. I have the 2 running at 650RPM now.

I don't have a Nexus 4090 myself. But the missing wire is reported before on SPCR. The wire is for some voltage (-5V??) that is no longer part of the ATX specs. It is nothing to worry about, unless you want to power a really old motherbord with this PSU.

I have used only the NX-4090, and it is pretty quiet. The noise, to me, sounds somewhat moderate-high pitched, but is very faint. The fan noise is very smooth. One thing you may want to consider before buying it is that if you have a case that is bigger than a BQE, or the same size as one, and you plan on running the power lines behind your motherboard tray, I STRONGLY suggest that you buy a few extenders/splitters, because it comes with only a few power lines, and the cables are pretty short.

PSU arrived today :D

It's a lot quieter than the Antec. Well possibly not, it's not like the Antec was loud just not that quiet. With the PSU fan always at minimum speed when im working away on web design stuff, the CPU fan at around 1200RPM and the 2 case fans at 650RPM the loudest component now is... the monitor! It's a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro and perfect for design work so it's staying but it makes a high frequency hum that I can hear :(
