Is my PSU adequate? (Antec TruePower 380)

Post by sheltem » Thu Oct 07, 2004 7:40 am

Hi everyone, I am having spontaneous rebooting problems with my computer. Sometimes my USB hub goes out completely, meaning that none of the devices plugged into it work. When I take out the cable and plug it back in, the computer resets. Then in other instances, when I use my front USB ports to plug in a flash drive, the computer restarts. I have a lot of components in my computer and I was wondering if my PSU is powerful enough to handle it. Here's my computer rundown:

Antec TruePower 380
Athlon 2500+ oc'ed to 3200 (200x11)
512mb PC3200
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Radeon 9500
4 hds
CDRW, DVD drive
TV Card
RAID Card
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
2 120mm case fans

It almost sounds like you have a grounding issue, but I digress.

Try dropping back the overclock. If that does it, maybe you do have PSU problems. But if it doesn't, your problem may lie elsewhere.

I'd say your PSU is certainly powerful enough. Have you ever checked the stability of your OC by running Prime95?

Thanks for the input guys. I failed to mention that my board is also refurbed, which could def. be part of the problem. These problems are relatively infrequent and I plan to upgrade to socket 939 and a pci express board when they come out. The important thing to know was whether my PSU was adequate or not. Thanks again

Not the Seagates per se but I've noted problems with Antec PSU + Seagate disks. Change the disks or change the PSU and the problems go away !!!

Doubt very much that the power rating of the PSU is the problem - I've run a similar system to yours (4 HDDs, 2 optical drives, oc'd 2500+ etc etc) using the Antec 380S and everything has been fine.

Try upping the vcore slightly, but it sounds more like there's a fault somewhere.
