Silent this dumb PSU, how do i do that?

i'm not a dual PSU setup, it's kindda a modding job because my case wouldn't hold 2. I have a TT purepower as my main one, the 2nd one is this, and it power HDD and fans

That PSU is loud, very loud because they uses the cheapo fan on it, and i really wanna make it silent, no point having a PSU that's louder than all my fans. Here is how my case look with that thing mounted on, any ideas? i was thinking of swaping fans, i can also remove both and add in a 120mm, i just don't know if it's gonna help with a single 120mm sucking air out... here's a pix of my case.

the one i'm trying to silent is the one on top. it's a very weak PSU, but should be ok powering just fans, but it's just loud, and that's not acceptable. Gonna need some help with this one folks :)

1. Read the forum guidelines on max image size.
2. Read the forum stickies, and the articles linked within. This topic has been dealt with before.
3. Use the Search, this topic has been dealt with before.

4. Why are you using two PSU's to begin with?

I seriously doubt that. What is in your system?

P4 @ ~4ghz

a few case fans, with CPU and the ducting, and my graphic card cooler, about 10 fan total.

some light (2 pairs)

2 PCI, a sound card and a vid capture card

I'll be using a 9800 or maybe a 6600GT, don't know yet

atleast 5 HDD, so far i have 4, wanting to add more

1 DVD rom and 1 DVD RW

fan controlers

floppy

that's it, there might be some small stuff that consumes power that i can't remember. it's my multimedia machine, it'll be loaded with alot of stuff.

I just want to have the extra measure because of all this stuff, really don't wanna mess anything up.

At worst, your system may draw 250 watts. But even that would require an exceptional amount of effort to pull off. (Running F@H, while playing Doom3, while defragging every hard drive, while burning a DVD.)

Any decent 400watt PSU will do the job.

But with 10 fans  and 5 HDD's, why even bother with worrying about the PSU noise? You'll be able to hear this down the street.

I agree with Rusty.

Unless you're using incandescent based lighting or 200CFM fans, a good 400W PSU should be able to handle that load decently. Heck if you're really worried, they've made decently quiet PSUs for people with more money than brains, but they're difficult to justify if you only have one processor.

By the way, my instincts are telling me that your suggested PSU is NOT a good one to mod. I don't trust any PSU that costs less than $20. Especially if it's loud (i.e. they need a lot of cooling to keep it within spec).

all the fans are undervolt, and they are sleeve bearing, plus some of them are 120mm, so they don't make much noise at all. I've tried firing them up, i can only hear the wooshing wind when they are all at 12V, at 6-7V they are dead silent.

How did you come to the conclusion that your 420W PSU isn't enough?
Have you looked up the manufacturers stated (peak) power draw of your components or are you just guessing?
