Which Low Cost out-of-the-box PSU for Celeron?
Hi,
I'm looking for a low cost low noise PSU for a celeron computer.
What is a safe bet?
Thanks.

Would you do the courtesy to others and read a bit first:

Out of the ones you've listed, my take would be none of those, unless you are willing to modify them (swap fan, move the thermistor).
Try to locate for example one of the above:
Coba Super Silent 350W (quiet, more than enough power for your needs, not too expensive)
or any of the SPCR recommended PSU units.
I don't find the Nexus/Zalman fanned models to be particularly quiet, although OK if you're requirements are not too tight.
Again, read the links above to learn more.

It's for a celeron 1000 (older computer).
I found the Fortron 300W in Canada at www.quietpc.ca for CND $55.
Do you know how it fares (accoustics wise) vs the "Antec 380W TruePower" that comes with the Sonata case?
Thanx!

Thats either a coppermine or tualatin core so you're looking at low power requirements, a 250W psu would be plenty, but they aren't easy to source
That Fortron would be a good choice, as for the Sonata PSU, apart from being overpowered, they aren't silent even on the lowest setting and the efficiency is very poor, especially at the low wattage output that system will be drawing

Definitely. Intel's thermal guideline for the 1 GHz Celerons is about 29W for both Coppermine and Tualatin cores ( http://processorfinder.intel.com ). We have a 1.4 GHz Tualatin core Celeron at the office that runs 24/7 on an old 250W Enlight power supply, no problems. Not the quietest PSU, but just agreeing that 250W is plenty.GrahamGarside wrote:Thats either a coppermine or tualatin core so you're looking at low power requirements, a 250W psu would be plenty
