Comparisson between several psu`s

Post by Net_Devil » Wed Jun 08, 2005 12:44 am

I asked this in the newcommers briefing room section but nobody answered me so i thought i could ask here.
Which PSU would be better in terms of stability and silence: Antec SmartPower 2.0 400w, Antec True Power 430w, Fortron Blue Storm 400w, Fortron Green Power 400w, Hiper Power TypeR 480w.

rig:venice 3000+@2400-2500(i hope), msi k8n neo4 plat, 2x512ddr, 160gb, 6600gt
Please help me. Thanks.

PS:Sorry if i was wrong posting here.

The general consensus seems to be that the Seasonic S12 has the best combination of stability and quietness (especially quietness). For your system, the 380 or 430 would work fine.

You may be hard pressed to get someone on this forum to rank the PSU's you mentioned, because none of them are as quiet as the S12. But you could check the PSU recommended section of this website.

Hi,

Antec SmartPower 2.0: Waiting SPCR review
Antec True Power 430w: not quiet
Fortron Blue Storm 400w: The best candidate out of your list, SPCR review available on 500W version
Fortron Green Power 400w: Waiting SPCR review(?), however the small heatsinks would suggest the fan might cause some airflow noise
Hiper Power TypeR 480w: Non-SPCR PSU

Hope this helps. Personally I would wait for the SPCR review on the new Smartpower power and then deciding between it and the Fortron Blue Storm.

Edit: m00a2 is correct, I would also go for the Seasonic if it was on your list.

Unfortunately i don`t live in the usa(I live in romania) and there aren`t seasonic psu`s available here. So these are the only good options.
And do you think the 400w blue storm will be powerfull enough for my system ?

Hi,

most likely the Blue Storm 400W is enough.

However, you can order Seasonics from http://sh-edv-vertrieb.de. Shipping is 20€, so quite decent. There are both bulk and retail versions available at this shop, for example S12-430 retail
costs 84.99EUR + shipping.

They only deliver in the European Union, Romania isn`t a member of this. I think i`ll stick with the blue storm. However, i really want a seasonic.

Can you get a noiseblocker version of the blue storm? (www.noiseblocker.de)

my 0,02€ is to do the fan swap yourself if not afraid of voiding warranty. If you however decide to go with a NB Fortron, they should be OK units, atleast many finnish users seem happy with them. So not a bad choice either.

I can`t read german hightower. Anyway if i buy the bluestorm and it`s too loud for me, i think i will replace the fan with a Yate Loon D12SL-12

Not a bad option at all, the D12SL-12 is a good choice for that PSU

If you are willing to put a fan speed controller on the Yate Loon, then it might be as quiet as a Seasonic S12. One of the keys to the S12 is that the fan runs very slow unless the PSU starts to get too hot.

The page is also in english: http://www.noiseblocker.de/shop/en_EN/Index

If you open your psu, you'll void your guarantee. I wouldn't do it.

Ok, then i`ll buy the blue storm and replace the fan. I hope it won`t be too difficult to do it(i`ve seen in the review that the fan is connected to a fan controller) but if i won`t manage i`ll call somebody to do it for me.
I`m happy now because i`ll have a good silent psu for no more than 60$
Thanks for the input guys.
