Thinking of getting Phantom 350W, But...

Post by Laugh Out Loud » Fri Jun 10, 2005 8:17 pm

...would that make any noise reduction with regards to the following components?

K8NF-9 (NB Heatsink, no FAN)
7000B Alcu HSF (For CPU)
Leadtek 128MB 6600
EG425P-VE SFMA 420 Watt Noise Taker, but to make it easier for most of you, just take this PSU as SPCR Enermax NoiseTaker 475 PSU

There are currently no case fans, as it is winter in Australia atm. However, I have 2 x Panaflo 80mm (FBA08A12L) case fans, ready for Summer.

3500+ temps average around 30-38 degrees.

Im thinking of replacing the NoiseTaker with the Phantom 350 Watt, and adding one Panaflo 80mm (FBA08A12L) case fan for airflow.

Would this setup be more quieter than NoiseTaker setup?

But there needs to be airflow if im going to get the Phantom.

For those who was confused with the first post, im just wondering which one would be quieter:

Phantom + Panaflo 80mm (FBA08A12L)
or Enermax NoiseTaker 475 PSU?

With a seperate fan you can put it somewhere with a less restrictive airflow. Which means your fan can run slower and produce less noise. I have no experience with a computer even remotely quiet, but i have ordered the components for my (first) computer. (including a phantom) I did ask if they sold 2005 models, they said they did, let's hope so :-)

An added advantage of a fanless psu is that replacing the fan(which is somewhere else now) does not void the psu warranty.

If you have the money i would get a phantom, but be sure to get the second batch. (2005 with a purple sticker instead of a blue one)

What kind of harddrives do you have?

Is there another way to differentiate between the differenent batches, rather than relying on stickers? Most the the retailers dont stock these, so they have to order them in from the supplier/distributor.

Where are the stickers located, on the box, on the PSU?

I don't know where exactly the purple sticker is, maybe someone else can help you with that. The serial number is a sticker on the back of the box.(and on the psu if i remember correctly) I don't know of any other way of making sure you get the right model.
