S-12 430w + X800 XL ultimate compatibility

Post by Flexo » Tue Jul 05, 2005 12:34 pm

Hi I new to this forum but I've been reading the discussions for many months now, collecting ideas for a quiet but good gaming PC I'm planning on building soon.

My question is with the Sapphire X800 XL Ultimate's compatibility with the Seasonic S-12 430w PSU. Having read the discussions I realise that 430 watt is plenty of Power for what I need, but I can't find any info whether this card requires 6-pin connectors for PCI-Express cards that this PSU does not provide but that the S-12 500W and 600w do?

All the reviews for the S-12 430 I've found, tend to use less powerful, older cards in their setups which has left me doubting this PSU.

Thanks for any info

Proposed PC system

Antec p-180, Athlon 4000 san diego + XP-120(Nexus 120mm), Asus K8N-E Deluxe, Sapphire x800xl ultimate, s-12 430w PSU, OCZ 1GB (2 x 512MB) PC3200 REV 2, WD Raptor 74GB,

According to this image and what I've read, the X800 XL does not require a power connection.

You can always buy a 4 pin molex to PCI-e adapter if you need one.

By the way isn't the K8N-E for socket 754 only? I tried to check Asus web site but the specification link seems to be broken.

You may encounter power cable routing issues with the Seasonic S12s. See the P180 review for more details. And Welcome to SPCR Forums!

Edit: link is alive now. It is 754 only. A64 4000+ San Diego is 939.

Most PCI-e cards with extra power plugs either include the necessary PCI-e adaptor or use a standard Molex or floppy plug for the extra power. The S12-430 is more than enough for your system.

Thanks for responding to me so quickly guys!

Decided now to go ahead with this PSU after reading your comments.

And I meant A8N-E(939) instead of K8N-E (754). Just a typing error!
