My Zalman 400B has started ticking!!

Post by markwm » Tue Jul 26, 2005 2:03 pm

yesterday my system started to make this ticking noise every 20 seconds or so, that last for about 10 seconds. It sounds like a wire resting up against a fan causing a noise.

I managed to pin point the noise and it's my PSU. The problem is I have no clue have to open the casing on the Zalman unit, there are no screwed at all!!....I'm sure the fan inside is screwed but I can't get in to replace it.

Any ideas??

There are 4 x small screws on the top of the unit's casing (not on the sides as with some PSU's). Look towards the corners. Unscrew those and just pull off the cover casing.

The screws may be hidden under stickers, which probably say "Warranty void if removed" or something along those lines.

Try to block the fan when running. If the noise is still there, good luck. Otherwise, it is only a matter of fan-changing (and you would have a decrease in noise, so it's a mind-free change).
