1. Seasonic S12-330 / 380 / 430

Far and away the quietest unit that we know of. Check the recommended list for more details.

I am very happy with the Enermax Noisetaker 375.
The only time I am (hardly) hearing it is when switching off, 'cause it spins a couple of minuts more after the PC is off to keep coolong the case and PSU. Even then, it is only noticeable if I am under my desk ...

Otherwise the noise is well below other components : HD, silent CPU fan ...

Killing that many PSU might also mean that your case is overheating.
The Enermax's double ventilation might help in that respect.

I second the Seasonic recommendation, thought I prefer their super silencer 80mm straight through arrangement (being phased out). It really depends on the case, the P180 is better suited for the silencer, wheras most traditional cases work well with the S12.

I would have to recommend Enermax noisetaker if reliability is your number one concern. I would not trust my system with Antec or OCZ - I've read too many bad things about them. Otherwise there is Seasonic, but just how reliable they are, I cannot say. This test might be usefull:

After 24 hours under high load, the power supply unit from Enermax seems to be as fresh as when it started

Hello,

I'm not sure that if you read something on TH, that it is necessarily true! They are not high on my list of reliable sources of information.

I'm sorry they are not high on your list of reliable sources but in my opinion they are one of the most reliable sites overall - especially when it comes to stability testing.

If a 300 watt PSU is all you need, I am very pleased with the quietness of my Nexus NX-3000.

Here is a link to their new version with SATA; I have the older one without a SATA connector.

What's wrong with Antec? My TP330 has been working for me for close to two years and with no apparent problems.

I'd certainly have no problem trusting an actively cooled Antec PSU in any system. I've built somewhere over 100 systems for customers and about 95% of them have used either a SmartPower or TruePower Antec PSU, and 100% of them are still running. I can't argue with those kind of anecdotal results.

I just got a S12-430 and while it is really quiet, unless you have ventilation in the top of your case, the vents in the back of the S12 can dump a bunch of heat into the case. I may return mine for this reason.

Recently built an Antec P180 case with a PC Power and Cooling power supply - first time using this brand, but I'm impressed. Every cable run is mesh-covered, and they've supplied all the connectors I need. Bought it for the power (510W), but I'm surprised how quiet it is; admittedly, that's probably kudos for the P180 :) The power supply air-flow is straight-through, which is good for the P180.

I remember PC Power and Cooling advertising in Byte magazine in the late 1980s, so they've been around for a long long time.

Maybe you can test things by taping over those vents? I'd be surprised if it changes much...
