quiet psu with papst and air tube

Post by jojo4u » Sun Jan 19, 2003 1:46 pm

Here ist my setup for a very quiet and cheap psu. I have an Enhance 300W unit with quite large aluminium heatsinks. Maximum enviromental temperature 50°C, maximum storage temperature 60°C. I assume, it's safe to have a heatsink temperature of 70°C. Enermax are specified to 70° C environmental (at 0%) and 80°C storage.

My system:
1700+, Cuda IV, 256MB RAM, MSI KT266a, Geforce2mx.
Prime95 running, but no stress to graphic card.

Temperature in room: 20°C
Psu ist not in the case.
Temperature of heatsinks measured with thermal diode of a mulitmeter. Quite cheap but not so bad.
My fans are two Papst: 80x80 NGL blowing out and 92x92 NGL blowing in.

1st setup: completely passiv, long paper tube (50cm) to let air rise: over 70°

2nd setup: 80x80@5V (wont start sometimes) with tube: over 70°

4rd: setup 80x80@7V is okay, but fan ist slightly hearable. Temperature not measured. Anyone interested?

5nd setup: 92x92@5V with tube: 51° without tube: 54°.

I am happy with the last setup and will see how it will perform in the case and in summer.
