Is an S12-380 enough

Post by general » Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:50 pm

I am building the following

Opteron 165 @ 2.7 (300FSB)
DFI NF4 Ultra-D
2*1GB RAM @ 250
Scythe Ninja
Raptor 74Gb
2*300Gb drives in RAID-1
7800GT
2 case fans

Anyone have any scientific opinions on whether this will be enough power?

DFI NF4 Ultra-D
Excellent choice -380watts should be fine.
Personally I would go the next one up but it is more than likely not necessary .

Opteron 165 @ 2.7 (300FSB): 110W TDP (not sure what to add for the OC)
DFI NF4 Ultra-D: 10-25W max
2*1GB RAM @ 250 : 7W?
Scythe Ninja: 0W
Raptor 74Gb: ~10W (maybe a little more at startup)
2*300Gb drives in RAID-1: 20W (ditto)
7800GT : 60W max (from this xbitlabs article: link
2 case fans: 7W max

In my experience, the power requirements on the +12V rails would typically force someone to go to a higher wattage PSU. I don't see too much power being required for your system on +12V, so I would agree with the others that the 380W would be fine.

you could do it with a 300w psu, 380 is more than enough.

I agree with the previous post. This issue was discussed in great detail in a recent thread:
