old motherboard/cpu + V2.01 psu = *$@!! ??

Curious to know it anyone is running an IC-7 with any new V 2.01 spec psu successfully.
I sold my antec neo he 500 that worked fine for me in three different setups to an anonymous someone that thinks the psu is blowing up his ram and is doing the beep, fan spin, sys shutdown thing. His old psu works fine.
I'd like to help this guy out if I can.
But I need a little advice on this from the Laws of Kirchoff & Ohm jedi here.
I'm inclined to believe that an intel cpu clocked over 3Ghz in an old platform needs a completely different type of psu. Like one that is better in the 3.3 and 5v delivery?
