Hiper Type-R
I believe that the Hiper Type-R is deeply under rated on this site, and people here do not realise for 580W, the fan runs at 17db to 21db.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

How do you know this? Do you have some very expensive sound recording equipment and an anechoic chamber or similar very quiet recording venue? Or are you simply believing what you read on the packaging?I believe that the Hiper Type-R is deeply under rated on this site, and people here do not realise for 580W, the fan runs at 17db to 21db.

Manufacturers sound ratings are often wrong, but so are the ones given by many hardware review sites. I can't think of any, other than SPCR, that have reliable noise specifications, and most seem plenty satisfied with the manufacturer's claims. So I don't think some accepting those claims is especially shocking.jaganath wrote: Or are you simply believing what you read on the packaging?
However, manufacturer's ratings are almost always optimistic, and most review sites have poor sound testing methods and a very lax definition of quiet.
edit: typo
The main point I was trying to get across is that at those very low dB levels you would need sophisticated recording equipment to measure it accurately. Ordinary individuals are unlikely to own or have access to such equipment, so there is a low probability that the OP can credibly question SPCR's stance on the Type-R 580W (not that SPCR really has a stance, I can't remember if they have ever reviewed a Hiper PSU, if they have it was a long time ago).
i had the 480W hiper too and i found it silent when it was idle too, under load the 580watt is quieter tho, still not quiet enough

I had a 480W Hiper Type R. It was silent when idle but under load it kicked up in speed and did produce a lot of noise. It also never seemed to go quiet again until the computer was switched off. I'm not sure how the 580W model compares but I am extremely happy with my Antec.
my brother has one of these, and they are laughably loud!
It's is easily louder than 5 Akasa fans all running at 1800rpm, and an older Hyper 480w PSU running on "silent" mode (which is still crap). This was running in a smaller more vibration prone case (the door were never on proerply for a start)
Honestly, do you have one of these PSUs? If so I suggest you get your ears tested (joking)

While no acoustic info is given, heres the fan ramp up based on load:

80cm fan starts at 1400rpm, which is too much imo for silence, reasonably quiet but nothing special.
