recommend a power supply?

Post by smithy1210 » Sat Aug 26, 2006 2:31 pm

Hi,
I bought a Fortron 120mm fan 350 watt power supply (UK) over a year ago and now the fan is rattling and making weird noises. I need a new, and better, power supply.

Im looking for something 350+ watts, for around £45ish? Nothing too fancy, just reliable and relatively quiet. I dont have the cash for the silent route at the moment.

Im needing some suggestions, as I dont know how much longer this psu will hold out.

Cheers!

ps. I've checked the fan and its clean, no obstructions.

Why don't you replace the fan? While you're at it, inspect the capacitors to see if they're visibly going to crap.

I dont know that much about the capacitors and that kinda stuff :? ...but i think the psu's its on its way out 'cause the rattling noise has been coming and going for a while and my tft has been flickering slightly now and then (mainly when i boot up) so i think the psu is not maintaining the correct voltage for it?

..also meant to mention im looking for a 20/24 pin psu

You run your TFT off the PSU in your PC?!

sorry, I made that sound a bit confusing. LOL

the TFT has a euro lead connection to the mains...but possibly the psu is not supplying the graphics card volatge correctly causing the TFT to flicker

So i think theres a problem with the actual power supply

Get a digital multi-meter and measure the voltage of the PSU's rails, then.

Yes. Seasonics are the best in any price range, unless you want to go fanless.
