Someone will have, to save all of us the time and expense.
I believe Corsair are one of the many companies rebadging someone else's PSUs, and you can guarantee that they keep the quietest ones for themselves, lest they go out of business.

I think we can deduce something from hot box test.Shadowknight wrote:Johnny Guru has also tested these supplies, but the one area he's weak on when it comes to PSU testing is sound measurements.
In it heat exhausted by load tester is piped to case with PSU as only exhaust and as we can see case temperature rised much more with Seasonic which strongly hints to smaller airflow. (=less RPMs=less noise)

Corsair gives higher temperature in first hot box test but looks like ambient temperature was higher at time of its test.
Faster ramp up of Corsair's fan visualized by Oleg is also visible in temperature measurements of jonnyGuru.
Corsair is made by Seasonic so looks like fan controller is different.
Re: Seasonic Vs Corsair
Considering they're both seasonic and use the same fans. I doubt there's much difference, just variations of the fans/circuitry. Anything else is just speculation.miTchy wrote:which is quietest

I have a s12 330 and i have to say that it is very noisy (very quiet environement)
It is really sad that the s12s are supposed to be the best psus for silence lovers because when it comes to quiet computing, they they are just not that, quiet.
The s12 is by far the loudest component of my system, i can hear a well defined airflow noise coming out of it.
</rant>
Im not saying that they are louder than other psus, im just stating that they are far from being quiet.
My next psu will probably be a passive silverstone nightjar.
Desperately waiting for a stronger pico psu....
cheers

"very" noisy is an exaggeration surely. More noisy than a lawnmower/jet plane/Formula 1 car?I have a s12 330 and i have to say that it is very noisy (very quiet environement)
First of all, the S12-330 is noisier than other S12's, this was stated in the review. Secondly, they are obviously not the best for silence lovers as they have a fan, which must make noise because it has moving parts. Do you want quiet, or silence? There is a big difference bwteen those two things. It is really sad that the s12s are supposed to be the best psus for silence lovers because when it comes to quiet computing, they they are just not that, quiet.
Also, if you are not happy with the noise from the S12 you can swap the fan, although this will void your warranty.
The S12-330 is a good choice for the average person with an average budget and average background noise, but not for people looking for absolute silence.
Impressive.... how have you silenced your hard drives? The s12 is by far the loudest component of my system
