Efficient power bricks ?

Post by snowy » Wed Feb 21, 2007 1:31 am

Hi there

I was reading the article about the picoPSU power supply:

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article601-page1.html

which seems ideal for a low power system (<100W) I'm putting
together. It talks a bit about a couple of 12V power bricks from Edac
which have "active power factor correction" and the "120W brick
boasts of efficiency above 85%".

Is this just about the best you can get for power bricks or are there
better ones around ?

many thanks

Ian

We had this discussion a few times before. One such thread that touched on the issue:

There are apallingly few choices in bricks, and usually not that efficient. Time you add the losses it's frequently inferior to a high-quality conventional PSU.
