True power consumption?

Post by bartoc » Sun Apr 22, 2007 1:30 am

I have a seasonic 380W that is working fine.

I plan to upgrade my venice 3000+ to an opteron 170 and my 6600 to a 8800GTS 320MB.

With NIC card, 3 HDs, DVD writer and 120mm fan, opteron and 8800, this site gives 440W.

I often read that the real power needs are lower by a good margin from calculators and nominal values.

How far off am I with my speculations?

Core 2 Extreme X6800 + Foxconn 8800GTX + 2xSATA HDDs + 1xSAS 15k HDD = 280 W (3DMark'06).

Hello,

Your machine will probably only use 200watts:

one worrying part is that the card requires 26A on the 12V rails on paper and that my seasonic 380 has only 25.

If it really needed 26 A, it would have a peak power consumption of 312W, sounds like too much even for an 8800.

8800GTS itself needs less than 9 A.

Well, if it were to be used conjunction with a Pentium D that used 10A off the 12V rails, those numbers aren't so horribly overstated... Remember, it's for the whole system and not just one component.

7900GTX,Presler 930, 2GB dual channel, 2 HDDs, P5WD2 pulling 220W AC while playing Day of Defeat: Source. 160-ish idle

Most I've ever seen from this PC is 242W

My system needs 100W from the wall when idling, 220W when gaming seriously, and reached 255W when I loaded it unrealistically (Orthos, 3DMark, defrag, burning, etc.)

Thats outragous, its just like buying Norton Internet Security - a waste of money that doesent meet a single claim - hopefully it wont bring a PC to its knees when installed though.
