Strange boot issue

Post by Jayrock » Sat May 05, 2007 2:22 pm

Hi

Just got myself a fanless mCubed EF16. I've got a system running an undervolted Sempron 3000+ on a Asus KV8-MX plus one TV card, DVD drive and 3.5" HDD. All put into a Silverstone LC-11.

With the Silverstone PSU I measured a mighty 80W max at boot, so I guess I should be fine with the EF16 (165W).

Now, the strange thing is: I cannot turn on the the system. If I just connect DVD and HDD to the DC/DC of the EF16 and bridge pin 16 and pin 17 of the ATX power connector, the drives start to spin happily. But they stop as soon as I put the ATX power connector into the mainbord. Even, if I turn on the PSU first with the bridge and then put the ATX in, the drives stop.

There's a LED on the board to indicate power, and it lights up as soon as I put the ATX in the mobo socket. I've compared the voltages on the EF16 with the stock Silverston PSU, and didn't find any differences.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks,

jayrock

I've rechecked all voltages and noticed that PWR_OK ist ~0,2 V, although 12V, 7V and 5V are present. Thinking about extrnally pulling this one to 5V... but this would for sure void the warranty, and I'm thinking about sending this one back...

Did some more testing.... When turning on the PC, all voltages are up. But apparantly the mobo tells the HD and DVD not to start. If I remove the IDE cables, they start to spin.

I'm lost, any ideas?

Thanks

Bad southbridge/IDE controller?

Maybe RMA the mobo.

Two things to try. Same system, different PSU and same PSU different mobo (system).

After that, I'm stumped.

Hello,

Have you tried with just the video card, one stick of RAM, and the CPU (and no drives even plugged in)? Try this with each stick of RAM you have. How about another video card?

Hi,

thanks for your replies.

Same system different PSU I've tried, that works. Same PSU different system will be evaluated over the weekend.

I've unplugged the DVD for testing. Didn't try yet to unplug video card or remove all but one RAM bank, will do that later.

Cheers

Hello,

I think that either your PSU is NG, or it has an issue with that system. Obviously, if the system boots with another PSU, then the components are okay.

Here's a PSU I would suggest:
