255W power supply in the 80 Plus "Gold" category

Even if there isn't a sub 300 watt gold PSU in the list I'm happy to see the 500W and 650W options.

Just for your information, quite a few ebay listings have appeared for the DELL RM112 which has a interesting efficiency curve.
I wonder if it is the same in real life.

Interesting find. Did a search to find out what type of system/case this oddly shaped PSU fits. It seems to be for the smallest version of the OptiPlex 960. There's a 90% efficient PSU option. Cheap enough for someone to try out. Output cables look minimal -- may have to pull out a soldering iron to add more.

I just noticed that in some of the ebay descriptions there is the logo for "80 plus silver", while on the 80plus website it is clearly gold. The DELL R225M seems to also be available on ebay, but I can't make out the rating on the PSU sticker.

I just picked one of these up for fun. I was wondering what that small connector was. One of the pictures had a closeup that shows it is a mini-sata power connector. This should make a fun project.

So has anyone actually successfully used any of these high efficiency low power supplies, or atleast been able to find a place to purchase them cheaply?

Too bad most of these power supplies have non-ATX mounting standards...Im curious to see pics of how people have been mounting their supplies. Also, one thing to keep in mind is that some of the older Dell supplies (Im not sure what year) apparently have the standard physical 24 pin ATX power connector, but the electrical pin-out is NOT ATX compliant...which may fry your board. I believe the newer Dell PSUs have gone back to having ATX compliant pin-outs.

This finding just made me want one badly

Though I'll have a hard time trying to justify using this unit instead of my BeQuiet 300w TFX unit I just purchased...

edit: I just found a VERY cheap R224M unit, it looks like it has the same shape, only slightly longer than the one you mentioned, and has a very similar efficiency on 50%+ loads. Do not forget to leave us all the information you can get once you have it in your hand (size, fan, noise)!

Oh yeah, I'll definitely be back to post my results. I have a picoPSU 150 + 200W brick from a Shuttle SD11G5 and a seasonic SS-300SFD to compare it to. These two both seem to be pretty even on efficiency. I don't think the brick is as efficient as some others are, at least at lower loads. I'll be testing it on my old Pentium M MoDT system which I've recorded down to 21W AC with just a 2.5" drive plugged in.

If possible, I'd like to maybe use this in my main desktop with an AII 245 and HD4670. The biggest issue will be the number and length of the cables as this is in a mini-P180. I have plenty of extra cables from old PSUs I can splice in. And I might see if I can make it fit inside a more standard sized PSU case which I also have spares of. But I won't know until I get it and take a look. This is going to be a fun project I think.
