BFG LS550 W power supply - Is it silent?

Post by sokre » Wed Oct 08, 2008 10:51 am

Tested here...

My first option is Corsair 650w TX, but I could probably get this one cheaply...

Anyone has this BFG?

In general, it's best to stick to the recommended list. Personally, I'd suggest getting a Seasonic S12-II. Despite the popular trend of huge power supplies, it's actually very difficult to build a system which requires more than 300 watts (think of an overclocked quad-core and triple-SLI graphics; most assuredly not a quiet computer).

So, your best bet would be the 330-watt Seasonic for $50. If, for whatever reason, you simply must have an unnecessarily powerful PSU, then you might want to look at the modular 500-watt M12II. At $90, it costs exactly the same as your BFG but is a known quantity.

If you're interested in power requirements, I'd suggest this calculator:

It's a bit light on choices, so just pick the closest thing you can find. It's by far the best calculator on the internet, and usually comes within 5-10% of actual values measured with my Kill-a-Watt. Many of the more popular calculators out there helpfully estimate roughly 300% of the actual requirements.

Thanks for reply, but I kinda can get BFG for 50 euros, Corsair TX650 costs 90 euro. So I was wondering if anyone has this BFG...

Seasonic is extremely expensive in Croatia. 500w S12-II costs 120 euro!
I know 330W would probably do, but there aren't any 330W PSUs today - and I just want to have a little extra, but not pay too much.

So if anyone has it it would be nice to here how good is it.
Other options are
Corsair VX450 65 euro ,
TX650 or maybe
Enermax PRO82+ ATX 2.3 425W at 75 euro

So the thing is I know I wont be wrong with either of these, but that is not the point.

I just want to know will BFG be any good at silent (because I can get very good rebate), or to skip this one. I wuold like an user opinion/review...

Bumping up an old thread since I'm wondering the same thing. Looking for something to replace my Antec EA380 (loudest part in system it seems and well....it doesn't match the interior of my Mini p180 :P.) Buy.com has it for around $46 after rebate, which is a pretty nice price. Just wondering just how quiet it is compared to say...a Corsair 450VX. Wattage isn't a big factor in my interest in this unit, 380 is enough, just looking for something that doesn't "whoosh" so loudly. That and the price compared to the corsair units is a big plus to me. Just looking for some opinions.

Praised for performance, but was one of the loudest units in the roundup.

Not much, but I admit that it was not the best in terms of acoustics. Here, the AC Fusion was better.

Is the AC Fusion is really quiet?

Sorry for my english.

The Fusion was tested at 240v ONLY, while everything else was tested at 120v. Thats the reason it looks so good. IMO they shouldnt have even allowed it in the roundup since its really not a fair comparison.
