Is my older Seasonic still up to the task?

Post by BeerCan » Wed Dec 31, 2008 8:49 am

Hi
I am upgrading my current desktop(s) and was wondering if my PSU is still up to the task. I am doing 2 upgrades but only one system is concerning me. It consists of
Asus pq5 mainboard
8GB ram
e8500 cpu (possibly overclock)
1gb radeon 4850 vid
1 7200 drive (prehaps 2 in the future)
1 dvd burner
1 or 2 usb devices that are used occasionally (camera, phone etc)

The extreme power calc says I need in the neighborhood of 380 watts.
The 2 power supplies I currently have are the older seasonics 1 is a super silencer 400 and 1 is a super tornando 400.

Should I be concerned or am I going to be ok. I do occasionally do some heavy FPS gaming if that factors in.

Thanks and Happy and Safe New Year.

Hi, those online calculators always overestimate. I would estimate your real peak load is less than 250W. Here are some real world power consumption tests of various graphics cards in a similarish system.

And a Happy New Year to you too.

The power supply estimator is giving you a recommended wattage for your power supply, not how much your system will consume. Thus your power supply should be adequate, given that it has enough current supplied on the 12V rails to feed that video card.

Do they have the 24 pin ATX connector?

Do they have 6pin connector for the video card?
