how do these 3 power supplies compare and is it a waste of watts(to much) for the following setup
-AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz
-G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
-ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO/U3S6 AM3 AMD 785G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0
-2 Western Digital Caviar RE 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0G
-lite on IDE dvd burner iHAP422-08
-creative SB X-FI audio 9400
-1 120mm and 2 92 mm fans
probably in a antec SOLO or P183 case
i plan to add a blu ray drive later on, using onboard GPU, and probably add 2 more 2 gig memory sticks down the road.

The Seasonic is allegedly the quietest of the 3, at least according to SilentPCreview testing.
But one thing I really like about the Seasonic is that it is 100% modular. It does not have a single cable that you can't remove. Most of the other Modular PSUs aren't 100% modular.
I own a Modu82 and it is nice. Nothing to complain about. They are coming out with the Modu87, so if you go in that direction you might want to wait... either to get the better PSU or to pick up the old one cheaper.

Wattage wise, it's definitely a waste. If you're just using onboard GPU, you probably won't ever pull more than 200W. Even if you want to add a GPU in the future, something like a Nexus Value 430W should handle that easily. It's really only when you go dual GPU that you may want 600+ W PSUs.
For noise, it doesn't really matter much what PSU from the recommended list you pick if you go with a P183 case, since then it'll be separated from the rest of the case and thus have a much lower ambient/intake temperature. If you go with the SOLO instead, the PSU will be in the traditional position so will be more subject to case temperatures. Check the fan ramp up and noise figures from the SPCR reviews then to figure out which one is your best option.

It might. It depends on whether the length of the ATX power cable to the motherboard is long enough for a P182 case. You could always just hold off on ordering a PSU for now and try with the apex first. It's not an issue in the SOLO for sure, but then the PSU will heat up more as mentioned earlier.nyhcbri wrote:do you think i could reuse this psu APEX AL-B450E 450W ATX12V for the above build
i have decided on the solo due to its smaller size and quiet potential so the reviews lead me to the nexus NX or RX psu. even though the value430 may be quieter, reviews showed that is does not do as well under high heat and with the solo there will be more. any recommendation on which psu to go with?
