SFX-L power supplies: modular SFX with a 12cm fan
Silverstone just announced the SX500-LG. It's a fully modular unit with two 6/8 pcie connectors and it's 80+ gold certified. SFX-L is longer than SFX 125mm vs. 100mm, it should still fit a lot of small cases.
Chieftec released their 500W 80+ gold unit a while back, which looks (surprisingly?) similar. The one review I could find classified it as pretty quiet.
There's an older thread about these. I am still interested in a review that focusses more on noise.

Re: SFX-L power supplies: modular SFX with a 12cm fan
If Silverstone would be smart, they would release a mini version of their SG-10, for mini ITX mobos, with SFX-L PSU,
with just one 140 mm fan exhaust (with 120 mm mounting holes) in the back and no top fan (no top opening).
Air inflow from both bottom and front (not lateral), with dust filters, limited to one slim optical and 2 x 2.5" SDDs.
It would need a noise blocking front, that would still allow good airflow, and 3 cm tall feet. I would buy such a case in a heartbeat.

Some other reviews of that High Power-based Silverstone SFX-L PSU (now also available as Sharkoon SilentStorm SFX Gold 500W, in addition to the Chieftec SFX-500GD-C the OP quoted) with fan profile data:

I've been following that thread for a long time. According to many users, but not all, the fan clicks at lower speeds, and it starts /stops quite often as well.quest_for_silence wrote:

Disppointing considering the extra time taken to make it silent, but then again rarely does delaying some time to fix something problematic work at all.

What about rephrasing such a thought?

Is the seasonic SFX 500 noisy? I see it mentioned around the net. Is it a matter of pot luck if you get a quiet one?
