An interesting PSU

Post by Abula » Tue Aug 13, 2019 8:07 am

I been a fan of Seasonic for a long time, but a manufacturer that has done very good PSU over the last decade has been Superflower, its a brand that its not that well known in the US, but has been the OEM for some resellers like Rosewill, and more recently EVGA Supernova line.

I stumble on a review that seems very interesting from TechPowerUp, Super Flower Leadex III 650 W Review, and seems to be a very good option noise wise, probably we wont see it in the US until EVGA adopts this sku or something similar, regardless here are some comments in case you are interested.
Another excellent power supply from Super Flower. The 650 W Leadex III unit is dead silent, beating even the Corsair RM650x in terms of noise output.

Under normal operating conditions, the fan will rarely spin, especially if you switch to Mode 0. Even with increased load on the minor rails, the PSU can handle the thermal load and doesn't activate the fan.

To wrap up, the Super Flower Leadex III with 650 W maximum power output performs very well and is among the quietest PSUs money can get you today. This is practically a passive unit with a fan to handle incredibly harsh conditions.
Its probably going to be a good option, for those who fear Seasonic PSU in terms of coil or electrical noise (i yet to encounter, but some here do), and depending pricing it should rival the Corsair RMx that its recommended a lot here.

overclockers uk has it on offer for £74.99 (no vat), or about $90 usd. shipping (to southern us) is another $35, though at $125 it's on par with a non-sale corsair rm650x. ocuk does offer a few other products that are harder to source in the us (at least in the itx arena, possibly others) which could make shipping a bit easier to swallow if you had reason to bundle.

then again, if psu prices go up again due to tariffs it might become quite price competitive to import one to north america.
