Help me decide - 400W SUper Silencer or Tornado
Should I get a Seasonic 400W Super Silencer now
or wait till the 400W Seasonic Tornado is out?
I'm building a new quiet, but powerful system, and it would be nice to have it ready for Half Life 2
Not sure what case I'm going to get but right now it's between one of the New Antecs, Sonata or GMC Trinity/Neo

I've got the 400W SS right now and it's awfully darn quiet. You'd have to have a mighty quiet system to be able to hear the difference between that and the few dB quieter Tornado. Is there another advantage to the Tornado? The airflow from the 120mm fan maybe?
Of course HL2 won't be out too soon so you could always afford to wait a bit for the Tornado.

Well the only difference between the Tonado and SS I can see, is the fact the 120mm on the Tornado is mounted inside the case, and at full speed moves 60+cfm vs the 30+ cfm of SS. The sound DB is about the same for both at full speed too.
So thinking between the lines, the Tornado needs more CFM since it has smaller heat sinks than the SS, but this means that as an extra bonus the Tornado would act as a nice air mover for the whole case as well
Well I'm just making an educated guess, comparing the 400W SS to the 300w Tornado. The 400W Tornado may well be noisier and thus be more or less be in line with the 400W SS, but with more air flow.
I guess you are right, there isn't much difference either way, except the bonus case airflow
Hmmmm

If you can wait you might want to, but the Super Silencer is pretty darn quiet. After I installed one in my system the Panaflows became the noisest fans in the box.CoolColJ wrote:Should I get a Seasonic 400W Super Silencer now
