Welll at the moment its running Smoothwall (firewall) but when I make my micro PC (see homepage too) fanless I'll use that for a firewall and run linux on the flash drive of this one and have a normal hardrive used as storage for a file server and set it so that the normal HDD will power down when not in use
The inductors get hot but the yellow transformer gets hotter. There are ventilation holes in the top and the bottom so air can flow through it. But yeah, it may overheat but if it dies one day it wont matter because it only cost $5NZD and was fun to make.Choy wrote:Really nice Max. I'm just concerned about the other components needing cooling. Normally some of the other components need some cooling, although not the same amount as the transistors. I'm not sure if it is the capacitors or the inductors.
I got the heatsink from a scrap metal place for $3NZD but you can get them from electronic places

Re: My homebrew fanless PSU
Hey Max are you still here?
I just read this post of yours from a couple of years ago.
How is your home-brew fanless PSU holding up?
I noticed in your pic you have a 448M 2.5" flashdrive card.
What were you using the card for? Not your main storage?
