Seasonic question

Post by munichkid » Thu Jan 29, 2004 4:59 pm

Can I run a single 120mm fan with a 5 volt mod off of a Seasonic Tornado 300? I did the wiring for the mod already on the fan connector.
I am going to connect it to a dedicated plug off of the power supply.
Is this going to be a problem?
There is not going to be anything else on the other 2 molex plugs at all.

Thank you for the help.
I just do not want to fry the power supply OR the computer for that matter :)
I know that 7 volt mods are not "looked" upon kindly by some power supplies so I thought that a 5 volt would work.
I have tested the fan and it does spin up at 5 volts without a problem.

Yes, connecting up a fan VIA 5volt should be no problem at all. I have several fans in my system right now that are being run at 5volt since it tends to be the quietest. I have run fans at 7v as well (infact, one fan in my system is a 7v Panaflo 80mm L for my cpu cooler) and never had a problem, but it is true 7v is generally not recommended. As for me, I have no problem recommending 7v myself, but Mike C. does not, for example (according to one of his articles).
