Online (US) Stores that sell Samsung SP1614C w/ JVC or NIDEC

Post by daba » Thu Nov 11, 2004 4:26 pm

After some e-mailing, I have compiled a small list of vendors that sell the Samsung Spinpoint SP1614C, which is the 160GB SATA drive. In particular, I was requesting if they had either JVC or NIDEC motors. Here are my results:

NIDEC Motor
None at this moment

JVC Motor
http://Bananapc.com

Unknown Motor -- Vendor could not provide information.
http://Newegg.com
http://Chiefvalue.com
http://Zipzoomfly.com
http://excaliberpc.com "We will no longer accept request to look for drive made specifically with Nidec motor."

If you find some, please add to this list! I still have some vendors which have yet to contact me.

Samsung SP1614C / NIDEC motor

Post by mbrochstein » Fri Nov 12, 2004 7:57 am

I recently (a week ago) recevied a Samsung SP1614C from NewEgg that had the NIDEC motor (maybe I was lucky?).

FWIW, The price at NewEgg was also very competitive ($93). It was their item # N82E16822152015.

Newegg does indeed have a very competitive price; however, it is still a $100 gamble as they do charge a 15% restocking fee. I think you were lucky, as I have researched that most people who have purchased from NewEgg in SPCR have received a SP1614C with a JVC motor.

I went to their site and, in bold, they have stated:

We will no longer accept request to look for drive made specifically with Nidec motor.
