Is it normal for a Samsung MP0402H to make a clicking noise
As the title states this drive is making a audible clicking noise every 5sec's,and it's not due to seek noise.
I'm about to rma the drive as it is still covered, however. samsung states they will replace the drive with a refurb which means I could stilll have this issue.
Does anyone here have this drive, and wish to comment on this issue before i send this drive back.
Thanks...

The clicking is probably caused by advanced power management unloading the heads:

You could try using application like HDDScan to turn off APM.

When my Fujitsu 2,5" drive is idle, the head is driven to one specific position. You can hear this as a small click after each access. The head unloading is a more distinctive noise. So try to put load on you hdd or try to let it idle completely e.g. without the OS booted.
I described it a bit more here: viewtopic.php?t=35424&highlight=

I used one of these 24/7, and it started clicking, and shortly after, it completely died. I can't remember where, but somewhere I saw people complaining about these drives dying.
Of course, I hadn't backed up for a couple of weeks .
It caused me to abandon my ideas of having a 24/7 server using a laptop drive on an NSLU2 machine. Lots of other people seem to have no problems though.
