2,5": fujitsu MHS vs. MHT

Post by ajagodnik » Wed Apr 14, 2004 9:36 am

Hi,

are Fujitsu's MHS 2,5" line as quiet as MHT line, reviewed by SPRC?

I have this option:
MHS 2040AT , 40gb

in contrast to
MHT 2040AT, reviewed by SPRC

Thanks.

From the Fujitsu website, the specs for the two drives are almost the same, so I don't think there would be any difference in noise. However, it looks like the MTH has the option for an 8MB Buffer, so it could be a bit faster.

Please don't equate bels to decibels. 2.3 bels represents the Sound Power of the drive while my 16 dBA/1meter is a sound pressure level (SPL) measurement. There is no easy or accurate way to translate SP into SPL, but generally speaking the SP measurement is 6~10 dB higher than a typical SPL measurement. This is a complex topic; please read Noise in Computing: A Primer for an introductory look.

BTW, the specs dpnt suggest significant noise differences between the 2 models you mention.
