Found a shop carrying spinpoints w/ nidec motors.

Don't know if this will help anyone, but i suppose we'll see.

I was opting to replace my HD w/ a spinpoint since i've heard fantastic reviews of them here. Being in the computer parts mecca which is southern california, I found a site which does will call service as well, so I could just pick it up in person.

Incidentally, the site i found, http://www.gogocity.com, also happened to have the 80G i was seeking for really cheap too.

Anyways, picked up the drive this afternoon, and i'm happy to report that the one I got is equipped w/ a nidec motor. I asked the lady at willcall if she knew anything about them, but unfortunately she didn't. She did spot check a few of the drives for me though and told me that all the ones she looked at were stamped w/ 'nidec FDB.'

Like I said, don't know if this will help anyone, but couldn't hurt to try.

You can't will call at newegg, but you can get panaflos at pc club which has a store there too... AFAIK, newegg and pcclub are the only places that carry them around here.

sorry to break this to you but i don't think http://www.gogocity.com is open on weekends...

There's a contact phone number listed on the website somewhere... you can try giving them a call.

Thanks for the tip silencery!! Perfect timing for me as my current drive just started flaking out.

I just placed an order for an 80GB and verified by phone that is was a Nidec.

Get 'em while they last. :)

I live in the Bay Area in Northern CA. I read a tip in these forums to go to MicroCenter for NIDEC Spinpoints. I'm happy to report that the MicroCenter in Santa Clara has about 10 each of both the SP1614Ns and the SP1614Cs. They are also stamped "FDB". The packaging is clear so it's easy to sort the JVCs from the NIDECs. Get 'em while they last!!!

I got a Nidec SP1614N this week from www.dabs.com - useful to know for those of us in the UK. I did get previous ones from overclockers but have since heard the owner belongs to a racist organisation.

Not much evidence to go on...but I'm tempted to have a dig around the net later in a detective stylee.

I'm never used them mainly because they seem to sub their prices through their delivery charges.

An accusatian on a message board isn't very credible, sounds like a standard smear tactic.

Reminds me of the incident with silenx, and I think you're giving them some ideas. "Ahanix are bigotet against everyone, and worship satan! They smell bad too!"

I just got two 1213C's from Newegg yesterday from the dude in the Brown Truck. They are both Nidec motors.

Sizzle, please comment on the noise output of these 1213C's once you install them.

silencery,

Did you just call gogocity at their customer service number? What is this "will call" you talked about? Thanks

"Will call" means you pick up the product in person at the warehouse instead of having it shipped to you. It's an occasional perk for us SoCal-ers since so many of the online dealers have a physical presence in this area.
