Nexus Harddrive noise reduction

Post by Ibliss » Wed Oct 27, 2004 10:08 am

Just browsing the Nexus site and read up on their new "DiskTwin" harddisk heatsink/damper.

http://www.nexustek.nl/disktwin.htm

Looks a little too 'solid' but given Nexus' record, I guess it will do a fairly good job.

(Sorry if this is old news - did a search any didn't find it mentioned.)

This product is so new, it is not even for sale in Nexus own factory shop.

Depending on the stifness of the rubber I think it will either rank better or good in HDD vibration & noise reducing methods - ranked

I think you are probably right in your estimation.

My own decoupling method uses cable-ties through the cage and drive screw holes. It would, I imagine also be in the good/better region. Cheap and cheerful, if a little messy. I have some concerns about HD heat though.

The advantages are that the drives can't slide out as the ties go through the screw holes. Awkward to change drives though.

Hmm another one to silence HD mounting in 5 1/4 bays.

We really need some HD silencing solutions for the small bays. It's what's keeping me from building my watercooled rig :( Can't find anything viable other than suspension because all the bays are taken up except where the 3 1/2 bay cage goes. Yeah it'd work there, but I'd have to suspend my floppy too LOL.

Wait a minute...WOOT first SPCR guy to silence a floppy drive via suspension!
