Samsung 80g from Newegg a JVC!

Post by bendit » Wed Feb 02, 2005 10:17 am

Am I just sc##$$#? Any suggestions?
I purposely got an 80g cuz I felt it was
simply the luck of the draw and didn't want to make a big investment....

regards

Mike

Have you tried installing the drive to listen to it for yourself? Lots of people are happy with their JVC motors Samsung drives. Use "search" to find the survey where everyone reports their model of drive and their subjective opinion of its noise level.

You could always just return the drive and eat the restocking fee.

Finally, you could try finding a B&M store that sells them in the clear plastic shells and try to pick a drive out for yourself.

I bought the SATA 80G from newegg a couple of weeks ago, and mine was a JVC too. No audible whine outside the case, though seeks are loud. Those Anetc rubber grommets don't quite do the job. :?

Try it and see.

yes, mine does not have the FBD stamp and it was made in 12/04. It is a rev D. I am going to mount it soon in the new antec SLK3000b I have coming.
perhaps we need a more reliable go to "quiet" drive around here? :) I am a newbie...can anybody suggest a suspension method for the complete....(i won't say it....) ;-)

How can you know it's a JVC if you didn't get it?

I've heard some talk recently about the Maxtor DiamondMax 10. Sounds like it's slightly louder than the spinpoints. But I'm assuming that's the Nidec spinpoints. Does anyone know how they compare to a JVC model?

I'm thinking about getting a new drive soon. I was planning on getting a spinpoint. But given the uncertainty of wether I'd get getting a quiet one or not, I may look into a Diamondmax if I can be sure it will be at least close to as quiet.

I bought two Samsung 120gig SATA drives from Newegg not too long ago and they are both Nidecs.

Wait, Rev. D? I thought they only had Rev. As?

Got a 160gig spinpoint and it's a JVC. No whining and the seek noise is pretty low (so far only hardmounted). Just because it's a JVC doesn't mean it's rubbish, just as having a Nidec doesn't mean you'll have a quiet drive.
