Do the Samsung SATA and PATA 160Gb drives have same noise level?

I know the Seagate SATA and PATA 7200.7 drives have different noise level.

I'm planning to replace my Seagata SATA 7200.7 120Gb drive cuz the noise is irritating me.

Hello & Welcome!

Have you considered suspending the drive, or enclosing it? Is it the seeks, or the idle noise that is irksome?

As for your question, I have only used one Samsung PATA, and it was just as quiet as all the eight SATA drives were. Samsungs are pretty quiet, but some folks have had units with some vibration, so you might replace one noise with another. Having said that, chances are pretty good that a SATA Samsung would be quieter than your current drive, but maybe it would be worth trying to quiet the one you have, before you spend the money?

You'll need to drop the 7200.7 SATAs in wet cement to get them quiet.

If you plan on getting a Samsung, make sure it has the Nidec motor. Which is much quieter than the JVC.
