Sold my noisy-as-hell SATA Seagate 7200.7 200GB 8MB.

Downgraded to a PATA Samsung SP1203N (JDEC motor) and it's pure bliss. I can hear it if I strain for it, but otherwise it's an unaudible marvel on par with my old dearly-departed Seagate Barracuda ATA-IV 40GB.

Now I have to resolve outstanding heat issues with my micro-tower case.

DTemp is telling me the Samsung is running 45 idle, 50 load. Previously the seagate ran 50-55 idle. Have attached Nexustek DiskTwin to it.

I wonder if the SATA 160gb 8mb cache drivers are as good?

I have 3 SATA Samsungs, two 160 gig and one 120 gig. I am not sure what motor they have in them but I have been very happy with them. I dont hear them at all.

The SATA and PATA drives should be the same except for the interface in terms of sound/heat. Now all they have to do is make one bigger than 160 gig and I will be happy.
