Well that was a very good Comparison , but I think that the models with lower capacities must be checked out!!
There is a Maxtor Diamond Max 10 (6B200PO) with 200GB and 2 platters and 4 headers instead of 3 platters and 6 headers of the 300GB one.
This drive could be very very close to the Baraccuda Iv or the SamsungP80
and it's also very big!
Also there are 2 versions of Hitachi drive which are
160GB / 2platters /4 headers
120GB / 2 platters / 3 headers
instead of 250GB / 3platters / 6 headers
We could have a new winner there!!!

first post!
been here a long time, and great reviews.
Anyways, I think the maxtor is interesting esp with the lower models. the one I just got is a 200gig PATA model (16mb cache). I think with 2 platters only, and being PATA, it be quite competitive in terms of silence. I have a 7200.7 200gig for comparisons later.
I have read many posts here, it seems that the NCQ is the factor in causing alot of seeks and noises, while not showing siginificant benefits.
