Pioneer DVR-A09XL

Post by Flexo » Mon Jul 18, 2005 6:08 am

Hi

Does anyone use the Pioneer DVR-A09XL Optical drive? How does it perform? I'm looking for an excellent performing and quiet optical DVD/RW drive for a new PC build. Are there any issues when fitting it into 5.25" bays?

I'll be using an acoustic case C6607b, I just hope the acoustic material that lines the side panels doesn't interfere with this particular Drive.

Any info? Thanks

Planned PC build (as things stand!)

CASE: Acoustic case C6607b with 2 Nexus 120mm fans (front +back)
CPU: Athlon 64 3700+ san diego CPU
CPU Heatsink: Scythe SCNJ-1000 Ninja + Nexus 120mm fan
MOBO: Asus A8N-E Nforce4 Ultra (939) + Zalman ZM-NB47J NB heatsink
VGA: Sapphire X800xl PCI-E ultimate
PSU: Seasonic S-12 430w
RAM: OCZ 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR PC3200 EL Platinum REV 2
HARD DRIVE: Samsung SP120 250GB (SP2504C) SATA
OPTICAL DRIVE: Pioneer DVR-A09XL DVD/RW
FAN CONTROLLER: mCubed T Balancer XL Analogue fan controller + mCubed Sensor Hub

Also... how does this drive perform as a CD-R burner?

Is there any downside to getting the OEM of this drive? A2ZComp has it for about 25 cheaper than the closest competition.

The OEM drive doesn't have the "noise reducing" features.
Here's a review of the DVR-A09XL.

I have one, very happy with it. I use it to burn DVD's mostly. I can't hear it, though I also have acoustipak behind my door to my Antec slk3000b.

I have the OEM version. It's a bit louder than my Pioneer A-06 I had before but the A-09 is faster. However, don't use it to read scratched DVD, it's not very good to do it.

The burning is very good, DVD or CDs, never had any problems with it and it sure is fast

Is there any easy safe way to get it to support bitsetting on DVD+Rs?

Sounds like a terrific drive, but I am having a hard time finding it. Could it be that it is replaced by the DVR-R100?

DVR-A11

I see I'm really outdated...

The DVR-R100 is the retail version of the DVR-110D (which is sometimes called DVR-610)...

The 10 is actually last year's model. This year is the 11. Don't know if there is a quieter retail model this year though. I also noticed my 10 can't backup the copy protection formats on my PC game discs using Alcohol.

In this aspect at least, my -08 and -09 drives are much superior drives for reading.
