Samsung Spinpoint HD160JJ is chirping ?!
Just got my new A8N-VM CSM microATX board, and paired it with a new Samsung Spinpoint 160G, SATA2 drive.
Maybe it's normal for a SATA2 drive to "chirp" but I find this drive to be making more loud grinding access, noise and strange intermittent "access chirps" when I'm not doing anything on the PC.
My previous drive was a Samsung Spinpoint 160G, IDE version, and you could barely hear the access.
Is this an issue of getting one motor type versus another, or is it the nature of the SATA2 drive, or possibly the Nforce 430 chipset, active firewall armor, is constantly accessing the drive?
Anyone else get these intermittent access chirps?
I'm use to it when I'm actively running something, but in idle, it shouldn't be constantly chirping at me... should it?
tks for any tips...

I grumbled an grit my teeth when I decided to buy the 200GB version of this drive. I knew i wanted a quiet SATA 2 drive though so I figured I'd give it a whirl against everyones complaints of these drives...
I got mine a week ago from Hellspawn here on the forums and honestly, the 200GB I have is quieter than the 160GB IDE I have. Both are Nidecs. Maybe there's just some manufacturing issues with these things...

Thanks for the info!
I haven't found much user experience on the HD160JJ model to know if the chirping is the norm or not. It seems most folks prefer the Nidec motors from what I read on here. Now I'm not sure what to buy.
This is for a audio recording and the Samsung HD160JJ and Hitachi T7K250 were two models that I was considering for the new build.
My luck I'll end up with a HD160JJ that "chirps" and a Hitachi that "meows" and it will sound like a bird and cat fight going on inside my rack case.
Btw, where did you purchase your Nidec HD160JJ?
Regards, JD...
