Is there a review which compares performance before and after enabling AAM?

Anyone know if the 250GB P120 exists? Everywhere is out-of-stock... the 200GB version is everywhere...... anyone know about the 250?

Yep, it's available, at least in Europe.

It sure is available here in Sweden. I bought one a few months back and a friend of mine bought one about a week ago.

Is the 300GB model as quiet?

PATA available

Post by Worker control » Sun Nov 27, 2005 12:42 am

The PATA model, the SP2514N, is in stock at various places. One is on its way to me at this very moment!

I hope it's as great as the SP2504C that SR reviewed.

My 200GB P120 from ZipZoomFly just arrived. It was a Nidec.

I'm still wondering whether I should use my raptor as my main drive (just returned from being RMA'ed), and is practically a new drive.

Note that that's a three-platter drive at 133 MB/platter, whereas the P120 series are two platters, at 125 MB/platter. More platters usually implies more power and more noise.

They do exist, unfortunately in US, only PATA version of 250Gb is available. You can get SATA up to 200Gb and PATA up to 250Gb. But for some reason in US, all shops with 250Gb SATA are OOS.

Yeah. Ironic that I'm in Australia, where the 250 GB model is available, but I got mine from ZZF (being the 200 GB one). I got it because it was USD $92 while the one here was AUD $175 (~ USD $130), and I didn't really need the space and shipping was free in the US...

Hmm, so from the 200/250 GB models to the 300/400 GB models, noise has gone from 2.5-2.8 bels to 2.7-2.9 bels. Looks to be noisier, but much quieter than other large storage HDDs (assuming that reports that the WD 400GB HDD are't truely "SPCR silent").

Here in Canada, only the SATA version is readily available. Are we at war or something?

No, the U.S. was always at war with Eastasia.

If the 300 or 400gb spinpoints were available now (USA)... I'd buy 3 or 4...

Unfortunately they are not available and I need to purchase by end of year.

For a SATA II RAID 5 config - having trouble maximizing capacity and minimzing noise :(
