here's a 'removable' suspension for 2.5" drives using packaging material. if you're ghetto and you like recycling, you'll like this. i got an si-97 yesterday and it was packed in this foamy block (not just thermalright, i have a few others lying around from other parcels). what i realised is, by great coincidence, the block is an exact fit into a 5.25" drive bay.
1. cut a window at one end for cables
2. stab 4 holes in the sides and loop elastic through
3. with a twist or two in the loops, notebook drive floats securely
4. slide whole apparatus into a 5.25" bay
the nice thing is the suspension is standalone and can be easily removed from the case after unplugging the cable. maybe that foam block can also damp some sound, or probably not, i dunno.
the last pic shows the thing installed in my mum's computer, this is a fairly quiet system the only noisemakers are i) modded zalman 7000 ii) modded seasonic super tornado iii) this suspended samsung mp0402h. not silent but probably below ambient in the daytime.

but awesome nevertheless
that's a samsung right?
yep these parts are hand-me-downs from my old machines. seasonic is super tornado rev A3. i just fixed the fan, not much of a 'mod' really. also maybe you can see the blue rubber screw thingiestheyangster wrote:i see you modded your zalman with an aluminum fan
what did you exactly mod in your seasonic and what revision is it?
nah... i'd be too ashamed to put it in there with that cable nest + i couldn't be bothered tidying up that cable nesttheyangster wrote: i think you should put this in the general gallery(the entire system i mean)
it's an old duron system anyway, quite boring.. my mum's not exactly a hardcore gamer
