Where to get Samsung SP80 hard disk with Nidec Motor?

Post by behr » Tue May 23, 2006 12:40 am

I have a SP0812C with JVC motor which has a pitchy motor noise. It bothers me a little bit. Seek noise is so so. I wished it was quieter. I would like to buy another SP80
with nidec motor. But, all the ones I found are SP120. From the reviews, it seems like
SP120 is louder than SP80. Where can I find SP80 with nidec Motor? I live in
Los Angeles.

SP80 comes in 80, 120 and 160 GB sizes. Do they all make the same noise?

I have a ATA100 Seagate hard disk and its performance is significantly slower than
Samsung SATA. I am thinking to get SP80 ATA 133, ideally SP1614N. Would there be any performance difference?

Also, which one is quieter SATA or PATA SP80?

Thanks.

If you live in US near Microcenter you could stop there. They were the only retail outfit AFAIK that carried samsungs including P80. Don't know if they still carry them though.

I went to MicroCenter. All the SP80's they had had JVC motors. Only SP120's had
Nidec motor.

Do you know if Fry's, Best Buy or any other retail store carry SP80 drives under different brand?

I believe CompUSA used to carry compusa branded samsung hard drives. I may be mistaken but it's worth checking it out.

Keep in mind they also carry a lot of compusa branded maxtor drives, so you may have to check several models to find samsungs one, if they still carry them.
