My new SP2504C is driving me nuts!

There's no metal to metal contact and it's insulated with HDD Shell II. The noise amplifies with 1 second cycle and it's like wwhhHUMmm.. ..wwhhHUMmm.. ..wwhhHUMmm..

That sound is driving me nuts and I can hear it to my bed (3-4 meters away).

There's no way to return this HD to the store, so I guess if I can't make this one quiet, I have to buy new HD. I was wondering that if I should buy the new Western Digital WD5000KS but according to this topic the SP2504C should a little quieter?! So I don't really know what to believe and what HD is truly the quietest now.

I also have Samsung SP1614 and it doesn't keep that annoying wHUm noise but it have higher idle noise.

Should I try to enable AAM with SP2504C or does it effect to this kind of things at all? Can I break my HD with AAM enabled?

What you're hearing is the beat note between your two HDDs. It's not the fault of either HDD; it's the fault of both HDDs.

Suspending one of the drives will eliminate the problem. Anything that eliminates the vibration from one of the drives will eliminate the problem; suspension is usually the easiest way to go. Good luck!

Oh I didn't think of that.. so it seems that my suspension isn't good enough. Have to think about new HD enclosure.

What's your setup (ie how did you suspend the drives)? Is it any louder when you suspend the drives without the hd cover? From what I've tried, usually after I suspend drives with clothes elastics I don't need those hd enclosures.

Wow! I have the exact same problem with my WD2500KS. The wwhhHUMmm.. ..wwhhHUMmm.. ..wwhhHUMmm sound is a dead on description for what I hear. I finally figured out that if I turned off my HD-Tivo which sits about 6' away, the noise is much lessened. I tried doing a crude suspension but it didn't work. You think the same thing is happening with my setup? odd thing is neither my PC nor the Tivo i loud by itself (not really audible from 5' away).
