8mb and 16mb cache?

Anyone know if there's a noticable difference between the two for a single sata 2 hard drive?

Not really. The drive cache is so small compared to the total amount of data on the drive, that the odds of a cache hit are quite small. RAM is infinitely better at drive caching, since it's vastly larger and much faster. There may be a minor improvement in performance for write operations, but it's not something you'd notice. Don't go out of your way to find a 16MB version, it's not worth the trouble.

Here's a link to an article that specifically tests that:

The Seagate 300GB 16MB Cache

It's a Mac review against a specific drive, but it should be indicative of what to expect. In their "real-world testing," the 16MB version was about 3% faster than the 8MB version.[/url]
