NEW HD. 150-200GB. Sata. $0-120
Title sums it up. By the way i want it to be really really quiet. However, I have a 74gb (older) raptor so as long as its seeks aren't above 23dBa it's fine.
Samsung Spinpoint T HD400LJ is a nice model and the WD counterpart are also good but I was wondering if the SPCR review ratings of the hds will be the same for lower density drives of the same model. Links would be helpful. Thanks once again, SPCR!

Is 320GB ok for your needs? If so, then you may want to consider the Samsung HD321KJ which is from the new T166 family.

I haven't personally heard it yet, but others claim the recent Sammys are very quiet.
Here is the HD321KJ product page.

I recommend the WD1600AAJS (the single 160GB-platter drive). Compared to my old WD2500KS, the WD1600AAJS is noticabley quieter (both idle/seek, suspended in Antec Solo).

I got mine for $71.xx shipped from ewiz.com.

Actually I only need it for my uncompressed music which right now is takin gup around 40gb of my raptor. What do you guys think of this drive:

I assume it's single platter and it's the same model series reviewd by spcr.

I recently purchased the 160GB version of the Hitachi 7K160. It's a single platter drive. The difference between the 80GB and 160 GB versions are 1 head vs. 2 heads.
I've got it soft-mounted in an Antec Solo case and it seems to be pretty quiet. I can't hear it over the noise from the two systems that were previously the quietest in my collection. Time for some more upgrades ...
The 160GB SATA version of the 7K160 is a little bit hard to find. I got mine at Allstarshop.com for $58, plus tax and shipping.

Here is a review in Chinese. It appears to be a single platter T166. They bench it against a single platter 7200.9 and it performs quite well with a faster STR rate and a 9.2ms seek time.computergeek22 wrote:... What do you guys think of this drive:

P.S. I too prefer to use lossless audio.

Yes, it should be as quiet if not quieter than larger drives in the same series.
However, there is no guarantee as a manufacturer could be using different motors or even different factories. Also, let's not forget those wonderful (<sarcasm) things called manufacturing variance and quality control. Millions of HDDs roll off assembly lines each year so just keep your fingers crossed and hope you get a good one!
Rumor: I recently heard that Seagate will show off the 7200.11 at the CES show in January. It supposedly has one 200GB platter in the base model and possibly four 250GB platters in the high-end model.
I don't know if the above is true or not but given Seagate's recent acoustic track record, you will probably not be interested in it anyway.

You could suspend them in the top 3.5" HDD bay for example. But imho 2.5" HDDs are too expensive (and not fast enough, but that doesn't matter if you only plan to use it for storage). I see no point in getting a ultra quiet 2.5" HDD if it will sit next to a Raptor. One of the resonable quiet 3.5" HDDs would be less expensive and still quiet enough. Samsung seems to be very popular right now. I have a SP2504C and a HD501LJ, both are quiet enough imho, certainly more so than my Raptor 74GB.
