New HDD, are 250GB WDs as good (noisewise) as 500GB WDs?

Hi,

Topic title says it all; I'm buying a new HDD and I'm wondering:
Are 250GB Western Digital HDDs (generally) as quiet as the 500GB model reviewed by SPCR?

The SE16 250GB? i have the WD2500KS, and mine was very quiet, with hardly any vibration. Cannot hear it in the lower chamber of my P180B.

I have the 320GB IDE WD hard drive, and it's the best drive I've ever owned. Very quiet with suspension and sitting on foam.

I don't know what the cost difference is between 250 and 320 GB, nor your needs; however, if you can afford/desire the latter it has my recommendation.

I was thinking of buying 2x500GB re2's for my raid1, since 250GB isn't that much nowdays for operating system (Vista), software and games (for example Vanguard takes 17GB space). But...

500GB Caviar RE2 seems to have similar specs as SE16. Only thing that RE2 specs don't list seek mode 3, like SE16 does. Any info whether the lower noise seek mode is available anyways in re2 disks?

My WD2500KS is quieter than my SP2504C.

I am very tempted to get the WD3200KS. I could really use extra capacity. FWIW: the price difference is currently just $20 at Newegg.

Does anyone know if the new 160GB platter HDDs are out? Their model designation changes from KS to AAKS.

A month or 2 back I couldn't find any potentially quiet (i.e. Samsung, WD, Seagate) single platter drives bigger than 80Gb. Will be really interested if 160Gb single platters are hitting the streets.
