How to suspend a drive perfectly flat?

Post by tonip » Sun Sep 30, 2007 10:52 am

I've just suspended one of my drives (WD1600JS) using elastic cords, but I'm having problems putting it perfectly flat or parallel to the floor.
Do you guys have any empirical methods for doing this?

I don't feel comfortable knowing that my drive doesn't sit at the right angle :)

Drives doesnt mind being at any angle. As long as you dont move them while theyre spinning.

Use a long (only one) elastic band for suspension.
Then move the band from the side that is lower to the side that is higher.
This works relatively good for me.

Hope this helps.

Don't worry about it. Drives do not need to be perfectly flat. Many, many computers in the world sit on uneven floors and uneven desks and get along just fine.

one word: notebook

If notebooks run fine then you shouldn't worry about being flat. I can honestly say mine have never been perfectly flat.

This is a non-issue as long as it isnt moved around alot while running.

I don't move my PC at all. The only time it changes it's position is when I touch it accidently with the chair and shift it 1-2cm :)
If you guys say it's safe, I guess I'll tincker with it just that it's seems flat (for my conscience) and leave it alone.

@Alex: I can't use only one cord because in my case (TT Soprano) it has to go through many holes (some very tight) and I only have short cords. Thanks for the ideea anyway.
